My school has school wide rules. They are be respectful, responsible, and safe. This year we added two additional rules of be kind and a learner. I saw Tricia Fugelstad's lesson "How to be kind". I knew I had a prefect integration opportunity. I had 1st & 2nd graders do this project to introduce them to the green screen.
I explained that we were creating hearts for the green screen. One boy said, "So, we are cutting them out for our video". Using the green screen is really like magic to them! Here are two results for this project.
I had students draw their own hearts. I encouraged them to be creative with their designs. I helped them use the Do Ink Green Screen app to get their images on the screen for the video.
We used the Do Ink Animation App for the animated hearts. It was really easy for the kids to do.
Our first theme is expressive art. I plan on spending one day on this with 4th & 5th Grade. Expressive art is a 1st Grade standard so we will review what it is and learn how to plan for this type of art. I will have them complete the Envision guides I made on Canva in Seesaw.

Goodbye, Stretch & Explore.
My students were sad to say goodbye. I would say that this is one of my favorite Studio Habits.
This week was all about assessment. We will move on to Develop Craft.
There has been request of videos of my instruction.
Here is one of how I introduce centers. This particular day was the grand opening of sculpture. I do not let students have glue or tape to start it is earned. So, I demonstrate how to do attachments without glue.
I am ending our Stretch & Explore section on my lesson plans. I am going to introduce my students to a single point rubric. I have learned a few things about using rubrics. I was tired of students just randomly selecting a number and having no actual thought or reflection about their art. It was silly! I came across the idea of a single point rubric from the Cult of Pedagogy website. I ran with this idea. I liked the idea of only presenting students with the highest achievement or criteria possible. Also, they have to write and be reflective. I added a grade section below for the students to write in what grade they think they deserve based on their reflection.

I opened the sculpture center this week. I start my students with no glue! They have to earn it by learning attachments without glue first. I just have them use cardboard scraps and attachment piece to start.
Here is all about the Clay and Sewing Center. I still trying to get caught up from being so sick! Next week, we move on to sculpture center. What happens after all the centers are open? We move on to a new Studio Habit of Mind: Develop Craft.
Stretch & Explore continues this week in Painting and Engineering. I think my students are getting the idea of what it means to Stretch & Explore. Check out the video. I am getting prepared to open Clay and Sewing for week 5.
