My school has school wide rules. They are be respectful, responsible, and safe. This year we added two additional rules of be kind and a learner. I saw Tricia Fugelstad's lesson "How to be kind". I knew I had a prefect integration opportunity. I had 1st & 2nd graders do this project to introduce them to the green screen.
I explained that we were creating hearts for the green screen. One boy said, "So, we are cutting them out for our video". Using the green screen is really like magic to them! Here are two results for this project.
I had students draw their own hearts. I encouraged them to be creative with their designs. I helped them use the Do Ink Green Screen app to get their images on the screen for the video.
We used the Do Ink Animation App for the animated hearts. It was really easy for the kids to do.
I usually spend a month focusing on Stretch & Explore with the students. It's a great time to practice Stop Motion. I use Stop Motion Studio app. It is easy and has some good feature. These are the results of some practice films.
I have been working on integrating technology into a TAB environment. The goal is for my students to be as independent as possible so that they can have more choice. When I started this plan I knew that small steps in scaffolding were going to be crucial to meet that goal.
I decided to start with basic drawing and painting apps for the students to use. I plan to use this for a month until I introduce a new skill or apps to them. I have had great success with Sketchbook Express on the iPads and Tayasui Sketches on the Macs. There are less buttons and choices for the students. The icons are easy to read and understand. I'm ready to make a big jump into QR coding my classroom. I decided to start simple. I wanted to create small explanations on how to use each center. I will use these videos to introduce centers, help new students, and reinforce artistic behaviors with younger students.
I found these plastic frame at Office Depot for $2.00. I bought about 10 of them. I like them because they stand out at the center, and I can easily change them when needed.
I start my year with drawing. So, I made my first video about the drawing center. When students scan in they go straight to this video. I am very excited about the possibilities that QR codes can bring into the TAB art room. I have so many ideas! More to come on this subject.
