5th Grade was asked to research and identify issues in the world. I had them place issues into a concentric circle chart to illustrate how that issue affects them. They had to pick one issue to research and complete a work of art about.
Here are examples of the planning and research they did:
I really pushed the students to research facts and current happenings.
Then we started art making. The struggle was how to make symbols and abstract representations of their issues. But, they did well!
A big thank you to Ottercares Grant. We used our innovation center to create the art. Students had to be creative with the use of materials and problem-solve. Most of the materials used are from RAFT.
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders are all learning about stop motion animation. We watch this video first to get some background information. Most of the students know "The Nightmare before Christmas" and other stop animation movies. They are so excited to make their own movies. We start off by using toys first to help us understand how stop motion works. Older and advanced students will move on to using their own drawings, clay, 3D pen creations and more.
We used a free app called Stop Motion to make these films. Enjoy!
