I have been working on integrating technology into a TAB environment. The goal is for my students to be as independent as possible so that they can have more choice. When I started this plan I knew that small steps in scaffolding were going to be crucial to meet that goal.
I decided to start with basic drawing and painting apps for the students to use. I plan to use this for a month until I introduce a new skill or apps to them. I have had great success with Sketchbook Express on the iPads and Tayasui Sketches on the Macs. There are less buttons and choices for the students. The icons are easy to read and understand. Here is a look at week two. I open some centers by using the Studio Habit of Mind: Stretch & Explore. This is what my objective looks like.
Know: Exploratory Art
Understand: how artist use Stretch & Explore to make Exploratory Art.
Be Able To: create exploratory art in drawing, collage and digital art.
I will slowly open all the center by doing this. Then, I will shut them down and reopen by implementing Develop Craft to work on skills.
