There has been request of videos of my instruction.
Here is one of how I introduce centers. This particular day was the grand opening of sculpture. I do not let students have glue or tape to start it is earned. So, I demonstrate how to do attachments without glue.
Here's an overview of week 1. Students were asked to answer some essential questions.
k-2:What is art?
3-5: What is art? What is art for? What is an artist? Why is art important?
I use these as a pre-assessment for the year. I have k-2 draw a picture and discuss as a class. 3-5 writes an answer on posters, then I ask them to draw a picture of anything they like. I ask them to define a purpose to their drawing. I use this as their pre-assessment. My goal is to have them defining a purpose (types of art) and meaning to their art.

I even created a simple worksheet for older students to complete when learning new materials in the art room. I put these into their sketchbooks, so they have a reference to go back too.
